Green Day to cancel Bellahousten Park Gig

Green Day to cancel Bellahousten Park Gig

And the band have finally broken their silence on why they've pulled the Bellahouston Park performance, which was virtually sold out, an hour after the news was announced.

In a sweary statement released on their website, Green Day appeared to pour scorn on the "adverse weather conditions" event organiser PCL Present had blamed for the cancellation.

"Glasgow, we are very sad to report that our show today at Bellahouston Park has been cancelled," the band told their fans.

"The local safety council, production crew, and concert organizers have deemed the stage unsafe for the fans and everyone involved.

"We are very distraught about this as we are in Glasgow now and were very much looking forward to this show as one the highlights of our tour."

They went on: "We have been playing in extreme weather conditions throughout this European tour, and the last thing we want to do is see a show cancelled.

"We love our Scottish fans and we don't care if its raining f**king sideways, although the safety of our fans and our crew is always our top priority. We love you Scotland, we love the city of Glasgow and it goes without saying that WE WILL BE BACK!"

Earlier, PCL Present had tweeted fans just ahead of the 2pm gate-opening time to tell them the bad news.

"We are sorry to inform you that due to adverse weather conditions it is no longer safe for the bands to perform on stage and unfortunately today's show will be cancelled," the company said.

"Tickets will be refunded from point of purchase within ten working days."

The band were set to play the much longed-for show this evening with Rancid, Slaves and The Skids as supporting acts.

Ticketholders had been warned there would be more security on the gates in light of recent incidents, including the Manchester Arena bomb attack at Ariana Grande's concert.

The doors were due to open at 2pm, with the first band taking to the stage at 4pm.

Green Day were then scheduled to appear at 8pm and play a two and a half hour set.
